A huge tsunami struck Indonesian city of Palu, in Sulawesi island. The strong wave was actually triggered by a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake that had rocked the coastal city a moment before, based on the report by BBC News (28/09).
Waves of up to 2 meters (6.6 ft) have slammed into Palu city in Sumatera island, just a moment after authorities had announced a tsunami warning.
To date, the authorities have reported at least five deaths, but whether it was because of tsunami remains unclear.
Based on the US Geological Survey, the earthquake smashed central part of Sulawesi island at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), at around 18.00 local time (11:00 GMT).
Dwikorita Karnawati, head of Indonesia’s meteorology and geophysics agency had been contacted to observe the whole situation. She said the tsunami had receded.
"The situation is chaotic, people are running on the streets and buildings collapsed. There is a ship washed ashore," she conveyed.
Indonesia is indeed prone to earthquakes and vulnerable to tsunamis because of its location is in the middle of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
