We’ve all heard people say things like, “Life’s too short.” — Indeed it is… If we spend our time on this earth by being ignorant.
With so many issues that are going on in the world, individuals and organizations have been taking their stands. They raise awareness and do volunteer works that support related issues. Each of them shows compassion through their works to create a change, to make the world a better place.
“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.”
Oscar Wilde
In an effort to contribute to the society, people are committing themselves to altruistic acts. They do so by doing volunteer works or as little as implementing acts of kindness on their daily basis. However, making a positive change to the world does not necessarily mean that it can only be done by real, active action.
As we all know, volunteering is a fun and easy way to explore your interests and passions. In that sense, people volunteer to support the causes that they are really passionate about. With that, a lot of people are actively doing real work through nonprofit organizations programme of volunteering.
“We all have a responsibility to volunteer somewhere and I'm lucky that I get the education and get taken to places to see what's out there and see what's happening and to then be a part of it in hopefully an impactful way.”
Jennifer Garner
However, the point is this… We can contribute to the society and to volunteer simply by joining local communities, attending seminars, focus group discussions, and workshop. All in the causes that each of us are passionate about, of course. But, how can this actually help contributes to society for the greater good?
Simple. One of the step to volunteer in creating a change is by raising awareness and have a better understanding of the specific cause. Even just by talking about it and learning more about the issue, we are actually doing our part in making the world a better place.
“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
