On Monday, September 3, 2018, Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group launched the Alibaba Talent Program in Singapore, and the career talk as the forum to further enlighten the program.
The intention of the program itself is to equip postgraduate students with the skills in research and development (R&D skill sets) through hands-on experiences at Alibaba so that they will be ready for the job market.
The program will open its first batch in January 2019 and is fully supported by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) along with Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
The eligible candidates of the Talent Program are the citizens or permanent residents of Singapore who graduated from Singaporean universities looking to pursue further studies in Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Quantum Computing, and other computer science-related areas. Around 20 until 30 students are expected to join.
According to Senior Director of the Alibaba Technology Strategy Department, Xiangwen Liu, as reported by Alizila, Singapore is chosen due to its world-class research and teaching institutions, making its talent pool grows stronger and competitive.
“Developing new and disruptive ideas is crucial, and we are committed to nurturing talent who would be the driving force of the next wave of technology innovation”, she added.
As Ph.D. students joining this program, the selected participants will spend part of their time at numerous research facilities of Alibaba, including the one at the NTU campus, Alibaba-NTU Singapore Joint Research Institute and Alibaba campuses in China.
The tuition fees will be covered, not to mention the salary benefit of 5,000 SGD for 4 years will also be given to the participants. Those who perform outstandingly would have a bigger chance to be employed by Alibaba.
