With a dramatic late winner over Laos DPR, Palestine has topped the Group A leaderboard. The game was played on August 8th in Patriot Chandrabaga Stadium in Bekasi. Laos took the lead In the 14th minute with a goal from captain Phoutthasay Khochalern. On the second half, the Palestine U-23 team turned things around. The equalizer from Mahmoud Yousef at the 83rd minute and a winning goal Abdellatif Albah’s 95th-minute goal securing Palestine’s victory.
The result puts Palestine at the top of Group A with 4 points, while Laos remains at the bottom following two consecutive defeats.
Laos national team coach Mike Wong said that Palestine was stronger than Laos both physically and technically. This caused Laos to concede two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game, despite their strong performance in the first half.
"Palestine is a strong team. We accept this defeat," the Singaporean coach said after the match.
Laos midfielder Lathasay Lounlasy said his team remained proud, despite the loss.
"We’re still heartened by the result," he said.
