Artistic gymnastics
- Men’s floor exercise: China has won a record nine gold medals in the men’s floor exercise event at the Asian Games.
- Women’s vault: At the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, in winning silver, Oksana CHUSOVITINA (UZB) became the first athlete to complete the medal set in this event at the Asian Games. She won bronze in 1994 and gold in 2002.
- CHUSOVITINA can extend her record (age 39 years and 97 days at Incheon 2014 Asian Games), as the oldest gymnast to win an Asian Games medal.
- Men’s pommel horse: At 1982, 1994 and 2006 Asian Games, the gold medal in the men’s pommel horse event was shared by three athletes.
- Women’s uneven bars: China has won a record 10 gold medals in the women’s uneven bars event at the Asian Games. The only time China did not win gold was in 2006.
- Men’s rings: China has won a record 10 gold medals in the men’s rings event at the Asian Games, including at each of the last four editions.
- The rings event is the only men’s event in artistic gymnastics in which Japan has not won a gold medal at the Asian Games.
Bowling
- Men’s trios: The eight gold medals in the men’s trios event have been won by five different NOCs - Japan (3), Thailand (2), Republic of Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.
Cycling Road
- Men’s individual road race: Republic of Korea has won the men’s cycling road race a record four times at the Asian Games. Hong Kong China follows on three wins.
- Republic of Korea (11) also leads all NOCs on most total medals won in this event. Japan follows on eight total medals.
Equestrian
- Individual dressage: Republic of Korea has won gold on six of the seven occasions this event has been held at the Asian Games. Japan won gold in 1994.
- Japan’s Masanao TAKAHASHI or Shunsuke TERUI can add individual dressage gold to their team dressage gold medal won on Tuesday.
Fencing
- Women’s foil team: Republic of Korea has won the last five Asian Games gold medals in this event.
- Men’s team sabre: Republic of Korea can win successive gold medals in this event for the second time, after 1998-2002.
Kabaddi
- General: India has won all previous gold medals in kabaddi - seven in the men’s event (1990-2014) and two in the women’s event (2010-2014).
- The only sport at the Asian Games in which there have been more gold medals won by a single NOC is dancesport. China won all 10 events in 2010.
- Men’s team: India lost a kabaddi match at the Asian Games for the first time on Monday. India was defeated 23-24 by Republic of Korea.
Rowing
- General: China and Japan are the only NOCs to have achieved a rowing medal on all previous nine occasions the sport has been held at the Asian Games.
- Women’s singles sculls: China has won seven of the previous eight gold medals in this event.
- Republic of Korea interrupted China’s winning streak in 2014.
- China’s seven gold medals are a record number for the NOC in a single rowing event at the Asian Games.
- Men’s double sculls: China has won six of the seven gold medals in this event. Uzbekistan won gold at the Doha 2006 Asian Games.
- KIM Hwigwan (KOR) can win a medal at a third successive Asian Games after winning bronze in the men’s double sculls in 2010 and silver in the men’s quadruple sculls in 2014.
- Women’s double sculls: China has won this event all previous four times it was held at the Asian Games, from 2002 to 2014.
- Women’s pair: China has won all previous six gold medals in this event at the Asian Games.
- The host nation won a medal in the women’s pair all previous six times this event was contested at the Asian Games. Indonesia has not won a women’s rowing medal since 2006.
- Lightweight men’s four: Unified Korea will compete in their first rowing final on Thursday.
- Lightweight women's quadruple sculls: Thailand’s Phuttharaksa NEEGREE holds the record for most rowing medals (7) won at the Asian Games. She claimed two silver and five bronze medals.
Shooting
- Women’s double trap: China and Republic of Korea have both won three of the six gold medals in the women’s double trap event at the Asian Games.
- China (9), Republic of Korea (6) and Thailand (3) are the only NOCs to have claimed medals in this event at the Asian Games.
Sport Climbing
- General: Sports climbing will be held at the Asian Games for the first time.
- Men’s speed: Reza ALI POUR SHENAZANDI FARD (IRI) is the current world record holder in the men’s 15m speed event: 5.48 seconds, set in a World Cup event in Nanjing on 30 April 2017.
Swimming
- Men’s 50m butterfly: Joseph SCHOOLING can become only the second swimmer, male or female, to have won both the 50m and 100m butterfly at a single Asian Games. ZHOU Jiawei (CHN) did the double at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.
- Women’s 50m breaststroke: Satomi SUZUKI (JPN) can become the first female swimmer to win gold in the women’s 50m and 100m breaststroke at a single Asian Games after her 100m breaststroke on Sunday.
- Reona AOKI (JPN) can become the first female athlete to win a medal in all three breaststroke events at a single Asian Games. She won silver in the 100m breaststroke on Sunday and bronze in the 200m breaststroke on Monday.
- Men’s 100m freestyle: The 17 gold medals in the men’s 100m freestyle at the Asian Games have been won by 16 different athletes. No other individual swimming event has had more different winners at the Asian Games.
- YU Hexin (CHN) can join countrymen SHEN Jianqiang (CHN, in 1990) and NING Zetao (CHN, in 2014) as men to complete the 50m and 100m freestyle double at a single Asian Games.
- Women’s 800m freestyle: Since 1990, China (G6-S4-B1) and Japan (G1-S3-B6) have won all 21 medals on offer. The last NOC other than China or Japan to win a medal in this event was Malaysia when Nurul Huda ABDULLAH took silver in 1986.
- Men’s 200m backstroke: Ryosuke IRIE (JPN) won the men’s 200m backstroke event at each of the last three Asian Games. IRIE can become the first swimmer to win four gold medals or four medals in total in a specific swimming event at the Games.
- XU Jiayu (CHN) can become the first male athlete to win gold in all three backstroke events at a single Asian Games.
- Women’s 4x100m medley relay: China has won this event in five of the last seven editions of the Asian Games: in 1990, 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Taekwondo
- Women’s -49kg: Thailand has won a record five medals in this event. They are the most the NOC has won in a single taekwondo event at the Asian Games.
- Men’s -68kg: Republic of Korea won the first five editions of this event, but Iran interrupted their winning sequence with victories in 2010 and 2014.
Tennis
- General: Japan is the most successful NOC in this sport, leading all NOCs in both gold (27) and total (85) medals won. Republic of Korea follows on 16 gold and 54 total medals.
- Women’s singles: China has won the last three gold medals in this event.
- Men’s doubles: India has won the men’s doubles event a record four times at the Asian Games.
Weightlifting
- Women’s 58kg: China has won a medal in this event on all previous five occasions it has been contested at the Asian Games since 1998. DPR Korea and Thailand have won a medal at four different editions.
Wushu
- Women's sanda -60kg: CAI Yingying (CHN) is the reigning world champion in this event, having won the world title in 2017.
- At the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, countrywoman WANG Cong (CHN) entered the Asian Games as reigning world champion in this event. She went on to win the gold medal.
- Men’s sanda -65kg: China has won gold on each of the five occasions this event has been held at the Asian Games.
