The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) plans to call up Najib Razak, the former prime minister of Malaysia and his wife Rosmah Mansor to provide clarification on the ongoing investigation of state fun 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The update from Channel News Asia said, based on the statement by Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), represented by chief Amar Singh on Friday (28/09) Najib would be called to assist and complete the investigation process.
Until now, Malaysian police has stored the records of more than 70 statements gathered from multiple sources and this time Najib would be summoned by the police to get his statement recorded.
“Apart from Najib, I also want to confirm that the police called former 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy last Tuesday in relation to his public talks on 1MDB that were held in May before the general elections,” Amar Singh stated.
In the media conference occasion, Amar Singh also spoke to the issue regarding the conjectures that said the police has misused any money restored during the raids of residences linked to Najib. On that occasion, Amar Singh clarified the allegations against the police which were filed by the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) saying that more than RM43 million (equals to around US$10.4 million) gone missing during the police raid on Pavilion Residences in May. UMNO took legal action based on the report from Najib.
Amir Singh countered the allegation by stating that Najib came forward only to file a complaint regarding once the police conducted a news conference, where they published the amount seized on May 25.
Amar Singh was also asked about his opinions if this whole issue were to be filmed, “Probably the need to call me to act in the part about the raids,” he answered.
Last week, Najib has denied all the charges against him on money laundering and abuse of power.
Rosmah Mansor, Najib’s wise would also be called regarding the seizure of jewelries which are believed to be related to the 1MDB case.
